Il professor McLeod, dal volto sfigurato, vive in isolamento in una
casa-castello del Maine. Il dodicenne Chuck, con madre al quarto matrimonio e il ricordo di un padre matto, sogna di
entrare a West Point ma 

ha paura di non farcela. I due sono destinati a incontrarsi, a capirsi, a diventare
l'uno maestro dell'altro e poi amici. La città maligna li separa e il professore è allontanato dall'allievo con
l'infamante 

accusa di pedofilia. 1° film dell'australiano M. Gibson (1956) che non rivela particolari
doti di regista se non nella direzione degli attori anche perché la sceneggiatura dolcifica non poco le ambiguità
del 

romanzo di Isabel Holland da cui è tratto.

Storyline

The story of a
relationship between a teacher and his troubled pupil. Justin McLeod is a former teacher who lives as a recluse on the
edge of town. His face is disfigured from an automobile accident and fire 

ten years before in which a boy
was incinerated and for which he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. He is also suspected of being a pedophile.
He is befriended by Chuck, igniting the town's suspicion 

and hostility. McLeod instills in his protégé
a love of justice and freedom from prejudice which sustains Chuck beyond the end of the film.
